Sworn or certified translation: which one do you need?

Sworn translation in Italy

A translation that is formally sworn before the competent court registrar. The translator signs an oath statement confirming the faithful translation of the original document.

Certified translation

A translation accompanied by a signed statement of accuracy and conformity. It is frequently requested by universities, companies, consulates and authorities outside Italy.

The file normally includes the original document or accepted copy, the translation and the oath statement. Procedures may vary according to the competent office and intended destination.

Quotation

Timing and costs

The quotation depends on the language pair, number of pages, text density, document type and required procedure. Fast delivery may be available for many combinations, subject to administrative steps.

Sworn translations may require court fees and Italian revenue stamps. The applicable amount, exemptions and procedure must be confirmed for each file and competent office.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are sworn and certified translations the same?

No. A sworn translation is formally sworn before a registrar, while a certified translation includes a signed accuracy statement. The receiving authority decides which form it accepts.

Do you need the original document?

It depends on the competent office, document and receiving authority. A scan is sufficient for a quotation; we confirm original-document requirements before starting.

Can you assist with Apostille or legalization?

We review the request and explain the available route. Apostille and legalization are separate procedures governed by the competent authority.

How long does it take?

Translation may be completed quickly, but swearing, Apostille and shipping can affect total timing. The quotation will state a realistic schedule.

Do you ship documents?

Yes. When a paper file is required, we use tracked courier delivery and also provide a digital copy by email.

Have your document assessed

Send a readable scan and specify the destination country, receiving authority and deadline. We will identify the appropriate translation procedure.
